More About ALICIA
Alicia Barr is a small-town girl with a big story to tell. Born and raised on a farm in Fairland, Indiana, she grew up on hard work, honesty, and faith in Jesus. That foundation, and her fall from it, shaped the message she carries today. As a successful real estate entrepreneur and mentor, Alicia built her career on integrity and genuine connection. But her most powerful lessons came from her personal unraveling, the moment she realized that even good people can lose their way, and that freedom begins with telling the truth.
Today Alicia resides on a small farm, where she continues to walk out her personal grief journey and serve the woman she used to be. Alicia loves all things real estate and is honored to support Joshua Center in every way possible. She makes a point to visit her nieces and nephew across state lines several times a month in an attempt to be the aunt she’s always dreamed of being! Her voice is both steady and deeply human, proof that God’s grace meets us in the mess, not after we’ve cleaned it up. She is passionate about helping people find freedom through honesty, healing and faith, and she does it not as a preacher, but as a friend who’s been there.
About THE BOOK
[Press Release] More Than a Secret is one woman’s courageous journey through the guilt of an affair and the grace of forgiveness. It proves that confronting our darkest choices can lead to the most powerful freedom, finding purpose in the pain. “This is the book I couldn’t find when I needed it most.” Alicia
Alicia Barr had it all figured out—small-town grit, a booming real estate career, and the moral compass of a God-fearing farm girl. She followed the rules, married young, worked hard, and prayed harder. But when a church’s failure, a horse barn, a failing marriage, and a powerful connection collided, Alicia found herself entangled in an affair that would challenge everything she believed.
In this raw, unfiltered memoir, Alicia takes readers on an unforgettable journey through the highs of passion and the depths of despair. More than a confession, this is a story of awakening—a reckoning with integrity, identity, and the cost of secrecy. With stunning honesty, she chronicles how one relationship shattered her “picture perfect” life—and how God met her in the wreckage.
More Than a Secret is not a tale of justification. It’s a rare, courageous window into the mistress’s mind and heart—a woman caught between truth and temptation, longing and loss. It’s a lifeline for anyone who has ever wrestled with the ache of letting go.
This is a story about the cost of compromise, the courage to confront your choices, and the grace that waits on the other side of surrender. Whether you're in the middle of your own crisis or searching for redemption from past regrets, More Than a Secret is for you.

Overcoming Infidelity and Finding Hope
Alicia shared her personal story of a four-year affair, explaining how it began after feeling disconnected from her church community following a series of losses. She described how the affair ended when she heard a message about not having secrets at a women's business conference, leading her to seek counseling and eventually write a book to help others who might be in similar situations. The book, which she hybrid published, is intended to provide hope and guidance for those struggling with infidelity, drawing from her own experiences of judgment, vulnerability, and redemption.
Alicia discussed the importance of addressing a sensitive topic that is often kept in the dark, emphasizing the need to bring it into the light. Jes expressed her hope that the episode would serve as a wake-up call for someone on the verge of making a harmful decision. Alicia shared her experience of being called on stage to address the issue, highlighting the power of trust and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Understanding Value and Freedom
Alicia shared her personal experience of making a poor decision during what she described as the most fun two years of her life, which later led to the most difficult. She emphasized the importance of understanding the difference between being wanted and being valued, expressing regret that this distinction wasn't clear to her at a younger age.
Alicia highlighted that her counselor helped her realize that Jesus Christ's sacrifice on the cross can free individuals from shame, a revelation that she hasn't struggled with since that day.
Healing from Secret Sins
Alicia shared her personal journey of healing from a secret sin, emphasizing the importance of breaking the secrecy and seeking help from trusted individuals or professionals. She discussed the impact of living in secrecy on her mental, emotional, and spiritual health, and highlighted the transformative power of grace and forgiveness. Alicia encouraged listeners to seek healing and not settle for secrecy, offering practical advice on how to take the first step towards recovery.
The conversation concluded with a heartfelt prayer for those struggling with similar issues.
1 Corinthians 10:12-13 – “So, whoever thinks he stands must be careful not to fall. No temptation has come upon you except what is common to humanity. But God is faithful; he will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation he will also provide the way out so that you may be able to bear it.”
NEXT STEPS
Here are a few action steps to help you dip deeper this week!
Identify one area of your life where secrecy or shame has taken root, and share it with a trusted friend, pastor, or counselor. Freedom begins with honesty.
Pray through 1 Corinthians 10:12. Sit with the verse Alicia shared and invite the Holy Spirit to reveal any places where you feel strong but may actually be vulnerable. Then seek support if you’re struggling . If you’re carrying a secret or walking through infidelity (your own or someone else’s), take one step toward help today by reaching out to a counselor, mentor, or recovery group.
Write down the truths God says about you—your worth, your identity, your belonging—and speak them over your life daily.
Pray for someone who may be in a dark place. Ask God to bring hope, clarity, and courage to anyone who is where Alicia once was.
