SHOW NOTES

Doubt Overcoming

Linda shares her experience of growing up in a Christian family in Canada and later making her faith personal during her teenage years. She describes how she overcame doubts by reading books from Christian authors and attending a seeker church in North Carolina that encouraged questioning. Linda recommends several resources for those wrestling with faith questions, including:

  • Josh McDowell's Don't Check Your Brains at the Door

  • Lee Strobel's The Case for Christ

  • C.S. Lewis's Mere Christianity

Finding Purpose Through Simplification

Linda shared her journey of discovering her purpose, which began with a year-long sabbatical due to panic and anxiety attacks in her mid-30s. During this time, she realized she couldn't juggle multiple commitments and had to simplify her life. She also observed a lack of foundational Christian knowledge among new church members, which inspired her to start a grassroots conversation group for mothers. Through various assessments and tools, including personality tests and spiritual gifts evaluations, Linda identified her strengths and gifts in teaching, mentoring, and shepherding, which gave her the confidence to pursue her calling despite lacking formal qualifications.

Anxiety, Faith, + Professional Help

Jes and Linda discussed Linda's journey through anxiety and panic attacks, emphasizing the importance of seeking both spiritual and medical support. Linda shared her realization that mental health issues can be treated with medication, encouraging others to trust God while also seeking professional help.

Bible-Based Curriculum for Modern Mothers

Linda discussed her journey of creating a Bible-based curriculum for mothers that addresses practical aspects of family life and marriage. She explained that the curriculum, which has been developed over 15 years, is designed to be adaptable for different cultural contexts and includes discussion guides, Bible verses, and one-pager handouts for each session.

Linda emphasized her desire to encourage Christian women to lead book studies or partner with their church's women's ministry to mentor other mothers, particularly in addressing questions about the relevance of the Bible in modern family life and conflict resolution.

Moms Mentoring Journey of Faith

Linda shared her journey of starting a moms mentoring program, highlighting how God orchestrated opportunities, such as meeting Holly who helped set up her website. She emphasized the importance of borrowing God's strength and love, especially during challenging family situations, and encouraged understanding different personalities, including in-laws, by considering their unique love languages.

Linda shared the idea of “borrowing God's love” when we are faced with difficult people or situations.

Linda concluded by acknowledging her husband's encouragement and support, emphasizing the value of being where one is and encouraging others.

NEXT STEPS

Here are a few action steps to help you dip deeper this week!

  1. Reflect on your own faith journey: Take time to journal or pray about where you’ve experienced doubt and how God has met you in those moments.

  2. Pick up one of Linda’s suggested books—Don’t Check Your Brains at the Door (Josh McDowell), The Case for Christ (Lee Strobel), or Mere Christianity (C.S. Lewis)—to deepen your understanding.

  3. Practice “borrowing God’s love” that Linda talked about. In challenging family or relational situations, pause and ask God to help you respond with His strength and compassion.
