S8 Episode #1- Jenny Randle Returns!

THE ONE WHEN JENNY RANDLE COMES BACK

In this powerful kickoff to Season 8 of The Collected Podcast, Jenny Randle returns to share the deeply personal journey behind her latest book—The Promised Presence: An Introduction to Holy Spirit’s Power and Authoritya journey that began in theological study but became a raw walk of faith through health struggles and unanswered questions. As she explored miracles in Luke and Acts, she contended for her own, discovering that hope is not found in tidy endings but in God's unwavering presence. From sleepless nights to bathroom-floor prayers, Jenny vulnerably recounts how the Holy Spirit reshaped her thinking, rooted her heart in Christ, and taught her to wait well. This episode unpacks the beauty of Listening Prayer, the honest surrender in suffering, and the truth that the greatest miracle may simply be knowing we’re not alone when we are in Christ.

Be sure to check out Jenny's first time on the show in S5E23!

SHOW NOTES

When Jenny first started working on this latest book, she was also struggling with some health issues. As she dove into the miracles in the books of Luke and Acts, she believed that she would also experience her own miracles. She shared this with her husband and he said, “What if you don’t get the happy ending you want? What if this doesn’t end up tied in a bow?”

This book was a real-life walking out of her faith and contending for miracles every step of the way. She went into writing the book with her theological brain, but along the way it became more personal. God met her in powerful ways that she could never have expected.

FEELING SHAKEN

In our last episode with Jenny, she shared, “When you know the truth of God, you will not be shaken.” This has really stuck with me over the past 2 years and has helped me to identify areas of unbelief at times when I did feel shaken.

Jenny has been learning what it means to have the mind of Christ and rewiring our minds to be more like Him. A big part of this is learning how to be rooted in who God is and not in our circumstances. There was one moment throughout her health struggles, where Jenny couldn’t sleep and she found herself on the bathroom floor, feeling very alone and crying out to God. The still, small voice of Holy Spirit said, “Jenny, no one can save you but me.” This helped her to reset her focus and remain rooted in Christ.

God is a stable place over and over again in the midst of our “what ifs” and wonderings. He will not be shaken.

WAITING WELL

We’re all in some sort of waiting room. It could be waiting for something in your life or it could be waiting for Christ’s return, but we are all waiting for something.

Luke 24:45

Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.” When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven. Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God.”

Jesus has been raised from the dead and these were his last words to His disciples before He was carried up into Heaven.

The disciples are now waiting for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. In their season of waiting, they did 3 things:

  1. Worshipped together

  2. Obeyed God’s Word

  3. Continued to go to the temple

We can use this as a model when we find ourselves in our own season of waiting. God will meet you in this place.

LISTENING PRAYER

Learning to slow down is a huge part of listening to God. It’s also important to have healthy boundaries around how God speaks to us. If we feel like we are hearing something for God, it will never go against His Word of His character.

It’s very simple and we often overcomplicate it. As believers, we have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and He will guide us. We get to partner with Him and receive what He has for us. Listening Prayer is a huge way that we can respond to the work of Holy Spirit and say “I receive what you want to do”. If we hear something and it aligns with God’s Word, then we get to obey and do what He says.

God is a good father and if He is bringing something up, then it is for your good.

HAPPY ENDINGS

What if your happy ending isn’t in your circumstances? What if your happy ending is the fact that you do have hope to cling to. One day you will be face to face with Jesus and the hardship that you are walking through right now will just be a blip compared to all of eternity with Him. Isn’t this enough? What would it look like if we were rooted in walking out restoration with God? What if the greatest happy ending is that we get to be with Him?

A natural byproduct of our worship is encountering God in new ways!

THE WONDER LIST

As Jenny was studying the miracles in Luke and Acts, she had the idea to create her own “Wonder List”:

Step 1: Identify your problem

Step 2: Pause and give breathing space for God to show up, give it over to God

Step 3: Prayerfully consider the provision. God will always provide an answer, but it might not be what we expected

Step 4: What is the momentum that follows God’s provision? How will you respond?

Testify to what God has done and is doing in your life. This is proclaiming the message of Christ. The bigger story that God is writing in your life is to proclaim His good works.

SURRENDER

The greatest prayer that we can pray when we are struggling to surrender is, “What can’t I let this go?”

Questions to ask yourself:

Do you love this thing more than walking in freedom with Christ?

Am I being oppressed? How do I find freedom in that?

What lies am I believing about God or myself?

FINAL THOUGHTS

The Bible says that The Holy Spirit is a gift. We have the opportunity to receive and respond to the Spirit. He is an ever-present part of The Godhead that is within us. He is our firm foundation that we can stand on as we walk toward full restoration and redemption in Christ.
