Being Called Out of the Boat

In the Bible, Peter was walking with the Lord day in and day out, and yet Peter still denied Jesus. Earlier in the story, there was the moment where Peter stepped out of the boat to walk to Jesus on the water. When Peter began to falter, Jesus said, “You of little faith.” What if this is not a statement of condemnation, but rather of invitation to go deeper with Jesus and have Him pull us up.

As we grow in The Lord we may reach various points where we feel like we’ve gone as far as we can go. In those moments, God is so gracious to draw us deeper and show us that there is always more to learn about Him. When we reach a comfort zone, God will continually call us out of the boat.

In these “out of the boat” moments, it can be easy to question God’s character and goodness. We must remind ourselves of who He truly is and all that He has brought us through in the past. When God is calling you out of something, but you haven’t yet arrived at the destination, then you are out on the water. While in the water, God is faithful and will carry you through. You might not see all the steps ahead because God is trying to develop your trust in Him.

Struggling with trust is universal to the human experience, but God will never stop providing and proving He is trustworthy. As we continue to follow Him, our desires and His desires will start to sync up. This is a beautiful experience of unity with The Lord!

Freedom Coaching

Freedom Coaching is a one-to-one mentoring system dedicated to helping those with an attraction and compulsion to pornography. Freedom Coaching’s mentoring system and program helps its participants reclaim a healthy vision of the body and of sexuality, freeing them from the attraction and enticement of pornographic images.

Freedom Coaching utilizes what they call, “vision coaching.” Throughout the coaching process, participants regain a new sense of vision, allowing them to see all of humanity with a pure, holy, and loving lens.

When we are ready to admit that we are broken, The Lord is ready to rush in! Authentic change will take time, but Steve gave us some valuable wisdom:

  • There are root reasons why someone is turning to porn. We need to get to the root of the issue in order to provide long term freedom.

  • God already loves us– even while we are in sin! We don’t need to clean ourselves off before we come to The Lord– HE will do that. God proves His love, in so much as while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

  • Freedom doesn’t change who we are, it allows us to step into who we are truly created to be. Breaking free from unhealthy attachments will allow you to walk in your true identity in Christ.

  • There is hope for freedom, The Lord is rooting for you to live fully who you were created to be!

Advice for Singleness

  • While you are putting yourself out there, continue to surrender to the Lord.

  • What wounds or trauma might The Lord be working to heal in your life? Your time of singleness can be a time of healing and growth that will prepare you for what God has in store.

Advice for Dating

  • Be detached from the outcome while you are getting to know someone, you don’t know where The Lord might be taking this relationship.

  • Pay attention to the “red flags” and “yellow flags”

  • Do not have sex before marriage– chemical reactions get set off when we have sex. These reactions will cloud your discernment process.

Advice for Marriage

  • Marriage is a constant process of growth. We are to help our spouse foster their dreams and God-given desires

  • The goal of a Christ-Centered marriage is to help each other become who we are fully created to be in The Lord.

  • Pray Together– if God is not the source of your marriage, the struggles will seem insurmountable

  • Communicate

  • Your spouse is not your enemy– the conflict is the enemy. You need to attack the conflict together and not attack each other.

  • Keep the end in mind– that you will make it because you love each other and you want the best for each other and the marriage. If you approach conflict in this way, then you can get through anything together.

  • Never intentionally go looking for conflict, but when it does happen, we don’t need to be afraid of it. We can face it head on with confidence in The Lord and each other.

  • The mess can become something beautiful when we invite The Lord in and allow Him to redeem it.

Final Thoughts

The enemy’s motive is to divide and conquer. He seeks to make you feel like there is no hope and you are alone. The struggle is real, but you are not alone. There is help and The Lord wants to rush in and be part of that. Cry out for help, The Lord is always ready to bring help!
