The Struggle with Body Image

God taught Heather that she was so focused on self and body image that she had turned it into an idol. The root of the issue was idolatry.

For freedom Christ has set us free! When we turn our body image into an idol, then it has a spiritual root. We are looking for the answer within ourselves, rather than in the truth of who God is and who we are in Him.

When we give things power over us, we turn them into an idol. Heather shared about the power that the scale had over her.

Comparison

When we start to compare what others have (or don’t have), we are dismissing all of the amazing ways that God is operating in our lives. God’s grace is at work in our lives to free us from the need to compare.

Envy is a sin. It is rooted in the belief that God is not good, or that He is holding out on us in some way. This is a sin that Jesus had to die for and it should not be taken lightly.

The Goodness + Kindness of God

If He is good, then what He has given you for this season right now is good for you, even if it’s hard. Don’t wish away the place where God has you because you’re so focused on what’s next.

God is so kind. He is not standing in Heaven shaking his head at our failures. We often put so many expectations on ourselves because we feel the pressure to have to earn God’s love or approval.

But God is saying, “I already love you. I love you as you are.”

We need to live in His rest right now. The infinite God of the universe showers us with kindness!

Final Thoughts

God has given you everything you need to accomplish His purpose in your life. He’s not waiting for you to “get yourself together”. His desire is for you to simply take the next right step each day. Surrender your struggles to Him anew each day. He does care. He is a good, good Father and He has a plan for your life.

“Lord, what do you have for me today?”
