Episode #24- Rob Johnson

The One with Rob Johnson

Rob Johnson is a husband, father, fitness instructor, and former Marine. He’s also the founder of The Forge Charlotte, a Charlotte area bootcamp, and Carolina Gameday, a fundraising event benefiting The Wounded Warrior Project.

ABOUT ROB IN HIS OWN WORDS:

I have been absolutely fascinated with fitness my entire life.  I thank my for dad always instilling hard work and discipline day in and day out no matter what the task.

Early in life it was martial arts, soccer and baseball.  You know, regular kid stuff.  During my high school career I was so totally hooked on the military.  More particularly, any elite military unit that was out there.  I set my sights on the Marine Corps and the rest was history.  I marched my way through boot camp, the School of Infantry and stumbled my way into an small yet elite unit known as the Scout Snipers.  Having played sports and being in shape early in life made most normal infantry activities a piece of cake.  I quickly found out I was not prepared for the rigors of Sniper School and the mental toughness required to earn the coveted title of Marine Scout Sniper.

I learned extremely valuable lessons of what true discipline, patience and persistence looked like.  The camaraderie and team work was vital to the teams.  Each man taking care of the person to his left and right was the epitome of what it meant to be a Marine.  Many times learning these lessons came at a great deal of pain and displeasure. These lessons were life lessons that you take with you and apply to any part of your life.

ABOUT CAROLINA GAMEDAY:

On May 18th 2019 Charlotte is gathering together to compete in our 2nd Annual showdown of the most fun and fit people in town. This event was inspired to provide authentic connection among Charlotteans of different fitness walks, abilities and styles.  The goal is to facilitate an environment where true connections and relationships can be made and where challenge can shift your frame of what is possible.

This event is a blend of Rob’s 8 years in the Scout Sniper Platoon and modern task based fitness.  The event will consist of 3 very different workouts testing skills and athletic prowess of its competitors in a quite fun format. Each workout is assigned a point value.  Completing each workout gains your team points accumulating a in a final score.  Top three winning teams win some pretty cool prizes. This is a charity event in which all proceeds will be given to The Wounded Warrior Project.

ABOUT THE FORGE:

The Forge is a high intensity, heart pumping conditioning event. Each week we meet on a Saturday morning and gather for some fellowship followed by a mix of fast-paced conditioning and strength building.  You can expect a lot of encouragement from your peers, teamwork and all the tools you need to get that body that you've always wanted.
